Stocking Sculpture
For this task, you will be creating an abstracted form.
You will create an abstract form and then match something from nature. For example you may create coral, a desert scene, the waves in the ocean or even crystal forms. The other option is to create a zentangle pattern.

How to Make the Form.
- Dissemble a heavy gauge coat hanger or use hay bail tie wire.
- Drill 2 or 4 holes in a block of wood just over half a centimetre down. (2 hole if using one wire and 4 if using 2 wires.) Stick the wire inside the holes. Make sure it is secure and doesn't slip out.
- Twist and bend the wire to create an interesting form. Once happy with the form, apply glue in the holes to secure the wire in place.
- Cut a panty hose so that it is about 30cm, keeping the toe end. Stretch the panty hose over the wire and wood. Try to make it stretch as tight as it can go, but be careful not to tear the fabric.
- Apply white paint, glue or gesso for a base layer. You may need two layers to fill the fibres of the panty hose. Paint the whole thing, except for the bottom. Painting the sides of the wood block with the fabric on top will secure the fabric in place once dry.
- Trim the excess fabric away from the base.
- Paint the form with either a design inspired by nature or zentangle patterns.

You also have the option to create a zentangle design. These may look complicated, but they are actually more simple than you think.
You can use patterns that already exist, or you can make up your own! Break each pattern down into simple steps. Many patterns can be found by using an image search. Some examples below:
