Watercolour
Watercolour is a paint that is usually mixed with water, hence the name. When using this medium, use a thick paper to avoid your paper crinkling too much. Here are some techniques to try:
Printmaking
There are many ways that you can make a print. The advantage of this technique is that you can create multiple copies quickly which look the same.

Some ways to make a print:
- direct printing - use an object such as a feather or leaf and apply ink and make a print
- lino print - you will need to carve a design. If you only need something small scale, an eraser can make a good stamp when carved.
- potato print - this is easy to carve, but will not last long, so any prints need to be made straight away!
- stencil - draw your design. Have it laminated so that the stencil lasts. Cut out your stencil and use a variety of methods to paint, draw your design!
2 part potato stencil
When creating a design for a stencil the main thing is to make sure it will all remain in one piece. Think of your stencil like a maze, everything must connect somewhere.
For example in the image above the glass have gaps around the rim so that the head inside and outside of the glasses join. If they didn't do this, the inside of the glasses would fall out!

Mixed Media
You don't have to stick to one medium. Try mixing and matching different mediums to see what works for you.
Computer generated
We will be looking at a technique called 'low poly.' We will use Adobe Photoshop to change a photo into an abstracted, many shaped image. You could use this in many ways, to manipulate the main subject for your CD cover or to create an interesting background.
An image like this could look good as a background. You might use an one of your images with this or perhaps you could combine this with creative typography.
