Year 10 Art Homework
Each term, create 2 free choice artworks and write a statement to explain why you created it. You can use any medium, pencil, paint, digital, clay, etc. Keep it school appropriate.
Practitioners Statement:
Throughout your statement try to use arts vocabulary. Use the Arts Elements and Design Principles PowerPoints to help you.
1. What was your inspiration/s for creating your artwork? This can include initial ideas, themes, and inspirational artists.
2. What does your artwork mean? What is the story behind your artwork that you would like viewers to see? How have you tried to communicate your intended meaning? (Consider any compositional decisions you have made or can reflect on such as: the arrangement of subjects, colour scheme, use of textures, etc.)
3. Evaluate you work by discussing what you believe you did well and what could be improved in the future.
Example of a practitioners statement:
In this piece I used the galaxy and the scientific diagrams to show my love of science and the universe as a whole. This also shows the logical, analytical, and deep-thinking side of my personality. The roses and the bright colours are there to show my love of art and creativity, as well as my bright, cheerful, and happy nature. Both of these aspects come from the skull, which represents me. The skull is black and white so as to depict how I am supposed to be according to society- logical OR creative, scientific OR artistic. The eye is society, always judging, always watching, as well as its monochromatic expectations of me. I believe that the piece is successful, as it includes all the traits and aspects of my personality that I wanted to include, and it is aesthetically pleasing. The piece is quite similar to what I aimed for it to be, and I am pleased with how it looks.

Student Example:
Artwork Title: The Bee
Statement:
I’ve drawn this because the bee is essential to the environment and are tirelessly working for the good of others. If bees aren’t around it will be the end to life, several animals depend on bees to live because of the food sources the bees are pollinating. Overall, there are more honeybees than any other type of bee or pollinating creature around the world. The honeybee is significant to the world for pollinating the crops including fruit and vegetables. However, Bees are fading rapidly and us humans should take care of them because it’s likely that we won’t survive without these creatures. The image shown below is my artwork that represents the bee and it’s job to pollinate the plants and keeping the world on its back.
