The Principles of Art
In year 7 you learnt about the art elements. These are the building blocks or the ingredients for making art.
This year, the focus is on the design principles, these are the rules or recipes that can be used to create an artwork. The art principles are the guidelines on how to use the art elements effectively.
Put another way, composition is the arrangement of art elements or items within an artwork. The principles of art help you to compose your artwork.

Repetition

An art element or an object within an artwork that is repeated. When creating a composition it is often visually appealing to group objects in uneven numbers.
Emphasis or Focal Point
Emphasis is the focus or main idea. What 'grabs' your attention
Variety
Pablo Picasso
Variety is having different contrast, emphasis, difference in size, and color. The painting on the right shows variety in shapes and color.
Unity
How the elements work together, fit together, so the artwork looks complete.
